Whiskey Review: American Metal Whiskey

To some, February might be the month of love, but for me, it’s the month for horror films and American Metal Whiskey. This small batch, boutique whiskey company was created from the team at American Metal Customs, an award-winning custom shop that builds and restores classic cars and motorcycles.

Hailing from Danbury, CT, American Metal Whiskey is an extension of the customs shop, and the brand produces ultra-premium whiskey through traditional distillation methods. Master metal fabricator and American Metal Customs Co-founder Josh Allison has said of this flagship expression, “It was born from the idea of the shop and the culture of it,” he says. “Not everybody can afford a fancy car or a custom build or a bike, but they can afford a bottle of American Metal Whiskey, which gives it that connected material.”

American Metal Whiskey first took to trade shows across the country, and after a successful run going through 100 bottles, their mission grew to reach out and collaborate with Vermont Spirits, with their stocks partially aged in Vermont, made from Tennessee-sourced barrels, and aged for up to five years in New American Oak barrels.

In my tasting, I am thrilled to report that this new kid on the block is perfectly approachable and completely delightful for the affordable price point. There’s an Easy Rider vibe that feels both authentic and built for a broadening whiskey drinking audience. You can find American Metal Whiskey for sale on the site and select stores for $49.99.

The whiskey is the color of straws of hay, with a sleek bottling and metallic label that screams style.

On the nose I enjoyed sweet honey and chamomile, joining oaky notes and golden raisin aroma. Subtle sweetness with bits of bitterness promises a powerful sipper.

A pleasant smolder on the palate, the whiskey is an herbaceous stinger. Both sweet and bitter, I tasted notes of honeysuckle and sweet violets, the kinds that taste of honey. Scrapes of vanilla bean help to tame the spice, culminating in a balanced profile that falls comfortably in the middle tier of boutique whiskey.

**This whiskey was provided as a review sample by those who created and released it. My reviews are my own, and I tell it how I taste it.**
